In Memory

Steven Arnold

MANSFIELD: Hard work, coupled with kindness, was the formula for Steve Arnold’s success.  A carpenter by trade, Steve was creative with his rough, scarred hands.  Those same hands were used to support family and friends…as well as to hold those closest to him.  His worn hands finally at rest, Steven C.  Arnold passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020 in OhioHealth Hospital, his wife at his side, following a courageous battle with lung cancer.  He was 60.

The son of Herb and Geri (King) Arnold, Steve was born October 2, 1959 in Mansfield and graduated from Madison High School in 1978.  Upon graduating, Steve served in the Army as a combat engineer.  He was honorably discharged in 1981.

Steve worked alongside his father in residential construction.  They were home builders.  He loved working with his hands, constructing smaller decorative pieces as well.  For the past 10 years, Steve enjoyed working for Lexington Schools.

In his younger years, Steve enjoyed scuba diving with friends.   He appreciated simplicity in life.  Recently he developed a love of reading.   It really didn’t matter the genre, Steve just enjoyed a good story.  He also appreciated the beauty of the countryside, often driving for hours on secluded country roads in his pickup truck.  That is where he found peace.

He and his loving wife, Diane, looked forward to their semiannual trips to the Outer Banks.  He loved sharing life with her.  Steve maintained a sense of humor even in the midst of the physical struggles endured from cancer.  On his worst days, Steve could still find a way to laugh and joke.  Recently when asked if he was scared of dying, he simply replied that he was only scared of what he was going to miss here in this life.

Steve is survived by his devoted wife, Diane Arnold; son Nick Arnold; step sons Bryan, Scott, and Steve Gifford and Jacob Henderson; grandchildren Kiersten, Ethan, Jasmine, and Ashton; sister Debra (Ken) Brenner, brother Randy Arnold; along with nieces, a nephew, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Steve’s family will receive friends Friday, May 29, 2020 from 4-7pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home.  Reduced occupancy limits will be observed.  The funeral home staff appreciates your understanding.  Private funeral services will be held on Saturday.  Pastor Robert Kurtz will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.

I was sorry to hear of Steve's passing. I would see him once in awhile around town and he was always smiling and wanted to talk. He never let on that he was sick and you couldn't tell from the conversation. I am sure that he will be missed. Ed Piroska
